My name’s Kevin—it’s a pretty common name for a Chinese-American kid, but there’s a story behind it. Part of it comes from the movie Home Alone, and part of it comes from my parents wanting to avoid names that would sound like an adverb with our last name—nothing like Quick-Lee or Slow-Lee. So, somehow this ordinary name ended up carrying its own charm and a quiet kind of depth.

That’s sort of how I approach my work too. I like things to feel familiar at first glance—nothing too jarring—but always carefully chosen, with a perspective that hopefully makes people pause and look again. I’ve found that when something true is shared, even something small, it can turn into something unexpectedly beautiful. It’s like the more sincere it is, the more clearly it shows up in someone else’s mind. Like a memory that’s not theirs, but somehow feels like it could be.
